The Nonprofit Fundamentals Certificate Program will help your organization build a sustainable future by increasing your knowledge about the fundamentals of running a successful nonprofit. Learn new skills and best practices around Financial Management, Grant Writing, Strategic Planning: Inclusive Planning & Responsive Strategy, Volunteer Engagement, Fundraising Essentials, Board Basics, Community Engagement & Collaboration, Exploring Equity, Nonprofit Social Media, Coaching for Top Performance, Strategic, Individual Donor Development, Human Resources, Basic Accounting, Evaluation, Building a Purpose-Driven Board, Volunteer Engagement, and Communications (class offerings and class titles vary per semester). The Nonprofit Fundamentals Certificate Program courses are offered only to nonprofit organizations based in the 18 counties of western North Carolina. We have two sessions per year, Fall and Spring. We do not offer Fundamentals workshops over the summer months (June-August).

If you are affiliated with a nonprofit in western North Carolina (as staff, board, or volunteer), upon completion of each course, you will be eligible for FREE follow-up support to help you implement what you learn back at your organization. Coaching will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and will be dependent on instructor availability. To qualify, your organization must be based and serving one of the 18 WNC counties in our region.
Fundamentals workshops are free for participants from WNC nonprofit organizations with budgets under $50,000 (email us at [email protected] to register). For those with budgets over $50,000, the cost of each online course is $50 per person. Pathways is committed to making these courses accessible to all nonprofit leaders in WNC. If you would like to attend, but the cost is a barrier, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected]. Spanish language interpretation will be available. Please let us know if you have any special accommodation needs. It is requested that individuals requiring auxiliary aids such as sign language interpreters and alternative format materials notify us at least seven working days in advance. WNC Nonprofit Pathways offers a limited number of need-based scholarships per class, per semester, and per organization. Students may receive only one scholarship per semester unless otherwise approved by Pathways. To provide equitable opportunity, priority for scholarships funds will be given to organizations based in rural areas, those with historically marginalized leaders, and those with limited funds for professional development. *indicates required field
