DESCRIPTION:*this is a two part workshop held online via Zoom\, three hours each day (total of 6 hours) to complete class\, February 5 & 6; 9:30am – 12:30 pm. Click HERE to register. \nDuring this six-hour course is designed for people working in non-profit organizations who want to be a part of affecting change within their organizations. Whether or not you are new to an equity journey or have a developed lens and analysis\, the workshop will support you in: \n\nInterrogating your organization’s commitment and readiness for institutionalizing DEI/B/J (Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion/Belonging/Justice)\,\nExploring and developing language\, and\nUnderstanding and framing dominant and oppressive culture.\n\nAfter the workshop\, participants should be prepared to go back to their organizations ready and able to engage in an institutional conversation about DEI/B/J\, support the start and/or continuation of an organizational DEI/B/J journey\, and graduate to the Exploring Equity 201 Pathways course offering\, which moves participants to operationalizing equity. This class is taught by Danae Aicher \nCost per online class is $50. Classes are designed to be affordable and are free for organizations with a budget under $50K\, contact us for details. With several major policy developments affecting the nonprofit sector in the past week and the state legislative session opening\, this will be a timely and important conversation not to miss! \n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – Lunch & Networking \nA buffet lunch will be provided. \n1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Dr. Chris Cooper\, Professor of Political Science and Public Affairs at Western Carolina University\, will discuss North Carolina’s political climate and its impact on nonprofits. Dr. Cooper notes\, “North Carolina politics can be confusing. From one vantage point\, it looks like the Republicans control the state and will for the foreseeable future. From another vantage point\, it looks like the Democrats are ascendent and poised to take over any minute.” \nDr. Cooper will discuss the reality of a purple North Carolina—a state where political competitiveness is the rule of the day\, power is temporary\, and the stakes are consistently and exhaustingly high.
