DESCRIPTION:Join us as we co-host in collaboration with the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits\, the Nonprofit Policy Conversation will bring together nonprofit leaders and local elected officials (mostly state legislators) from western NC to discuss public policy issues that are important to charitable nonprofits and the people and communities they serve. The Conversation will begin with a briefing on nonprofit sector trends and potential public policy solutions and challenges for nonprofits in 2024 and beyond\, then open up for discussions about state and federal public policy issues that are of particular interest to local nonprofits and ways nonprofits can engage in the 2024 election while remaining nonpartisan. This workshop aims to develop a critical thinking practice to institutionalize equitable practices within our organizations. Workshop participants will be challenged to intentionally and creatively operate in a manner that interrupts systemic oppression in and throughout their organization. SUMMARY:Nonprofit Fundamentals: Inclusive Planning & Responsive Strategy (October 25 & 26 - two part series)
DESCRIPTION:*this is a two part workshop held online via Zoom\, three hours each day (total of 6 hours) to complete class\, October 25 & 26; 9:30am – 12:30 pm. Click here to register. \nChange is constant\, and our world is changing more rapidly than ever before. Responsive nonprofit organizations are agile enough to evolve and adapt strategically over time while staying true to shared vision and values. Planning and strategy can be ongoing\, dynamic processes driven by evaluation and data and guided by community voices. Nonprofits can engage in inclusive and equitable planning to create strategy. In this interactive session\, you will gain an understanding of participatory planning\, learn how to gather and incorporate community data to inform planning\, practice using key tools for inclusive planning and strategic decision-making\, and build skills to create strategy to guide your organization toward your vision. We will also explore organizational culture as key to creating and implementing strategy and discuss elements of inclusive\, equitable\, and positive organizational culture. This course is appropriate for representatives from organizations of any size or developmental stage\, whether you are new or experienced in the nonprofit field. This class is taught by Beth Trigg. \nCost per online class is $50. Classes are designed to be affordable and are free for organizations with a budget under $50K\, contact us for details. Click here to register. \nCentering the voices of those most impacted is crucial for all organizations to create sustainable\, equitable\, and meaningful work. Engaging the community requires extending the table and ensuring seats to those whose perspective and wisdom will provide an understanding of community priorities and aspirations. This workshop will provide the space to explore community engagement beyond the checkbox by offering a real\, practical framework and tools to partner effectively with the community. \n\nDefine “community engagement”\nName different methods for engaging the community\nDiscuss the barriers that are often present engaging the community\nOutline actionable steps specific to engaging your community\n\nThis class will be co-taught by Aisha Shepherd & Allison Sturtevant-Gilliam. \nCost per online class is $50.
