Mitchell County SafePlace, Inc., a nonprofit organization housed in Spruce Pine, NC and servicing Mitchell and surrounding counties, currently has an opening for an Executive Director (ED). SafePlace, formed in 1995, seeks to help eliminate domestic violence and sexual abuse through education, advocacy and crisis services. Currently, SafePlace employs over twenty employees within its shelter for victims of domestic violence, transitional home, agency administrative office and two thrift stores operating in Spruce Pine.
The ED is the key management leader of the organization and is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties will include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the agency’s Board of Directors.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent experience; experience in domestic violence or victimization prevention or social work a plus; senior nonprofit management preferred; budget and grant management skills specifically in nonprofit, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
Additionally, the position requires strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation; knowledge of funding raising strategies and donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector, skills to collaborate with and motivate board member and volunteers, strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to successfully oversee and collaborate with staff.
