Wade Rogers has over 30 years of experience in accounting and finance. A Certified Public Accountant (NC Certificate #33206), Wade is a graduate of Florida State University (Bachelor’s in Accounting) and the University of Illinois (Master’s in Accounting). Wade started his career in the Chicago office of Price Waterhouse, where he was ultimately promoted to audit manager, until moving to management controller positions in the US and France with Pechiney, a multinational aluminum and packaging corporation. Transitioning to the nonprofit sector, Wade has worked as the controller of the New York-based Samuel H. Kress Foundation, as well as for multiple Asheville nonprofits – both as staff and contractor – including Neighborhood Housing Services and OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling. Since 2016, he has continued to work with the nonprofit sector as a consultant, both independently and with WNC Nonprofit Pathways, and as an instructor in the Duke University Nonprofit Management Program. He also serves as Board Treasurer for Arts for Life, an Asheville-based organization dedicated to supporting pediatric patients and families through arts education and engagement.
Wade’s services are rooted in his ability to demystify accounting information for nonprofit organizations. This includes establishing financial reports which are accessible and understandable for all Board members, training Boards on the elements of financial reports and the particularities of their own organization, and working with staff to ensure the smooth flow of financial information and reports. Wade also has experience in transitioning the financial roles of organizations necessitated by either growth or position vacancies and is able to untangle previous accounting errors and misstatements and put in place processes to prevent their recurrence. Because he works exclusively with nonprofits, Wade is well-suited to assist clients on improvements to their financial infrastructure while also maintaining a sensitivity to the governance, funding, and regulatory issues facing the organization.
As a consultant and advisor, Wade does not perform traditional “attest” work such as financial audits, reviews, compilations, or Form 990 preparation; however, he does assist organizations in preparing for these procedures to ensure a smooth engagement with the outside audit firm.
