In 2012, Michelle started Michelle Tracz CPA, CFE, PLLC, an accounting and consulting practice in western North Carolina. The firm specializes in assisting small to mid-sized not for profit agencies to help them meet their accounting and financial reporting needs. Michelle and her team assist Accounting Managers and staff, Executive Directors, and Board Members by providing Contract Controller, Contract CFO, Accounting and Consulting services, as well as assistance with sourcing, set-up, and implementation or transition of accounting systems, internal controls review and assessment, strategic organizational development, and HR processes and documentation. Michelle Tracz is a Certified Public Accountant (NC Certificate #31441 and MA Certificate #16922) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE certified since 2012) with over 25 years’ experience encompassing public accounting, internal auditing and compliance, and financial management in manufacturing and not for profit industries. Michelle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a minor in Accounting from Clark University in Worcester, MA in 1991, and worked in public accounting for Sullivan Bille PC and Pannell Kerr Forster in Boston. While in public accounting, Michelle earned her CPA certificate, performed audits, reviews, and tax returns for a wide variety of clients.

After four years in the public accounting industry, Michelle transferred her knowledge and experiences into internal audit and compliance with General Signal Corporation (GSC) in Stamford, Connecticut and Kendro Laboratory Products (now Thermo-Fisher Scientific) in Asheville, North Carolina, fulfilling six years of financial management in manufacturing and four years in compliance controls documentation, testing, and remediation.

Michelle then took the position of Finance Director for the Jewish Community Center in Asheville, North Carolina. This experience provided seven years of non-profit financial management, including development of fiscal management systems and processes, sourcing and implementation of improved financial management reporting software, preparation of monthly financial reports and analyses, management of all employee benefits and IT services, ensuring appropriate agency safeguards and maintaining optimal cash flow for the agency. During her tenure, Michelle successfully completed six agency audits with no management comments or reportable adjustments.

Michelle is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and the North Carolina Association of CPA’s (NCACPA), where she is a member of the Board of Directors as well as she serves on the NCACPA Members in Business & Industry Committee and the Fraud Conference Committee. Michelle is also a member of Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and the Asheville Chamber of Commerce. Michelle is the current Vice President at Large for the Jewish Community Center of Asheville, the Vice President for the Fletcher Area Business Association, Board Member for the Hendersonville Community Theatre, Chair for the Leads South Group of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, the Co-Chair of the Professional Networking Group of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, and volunteers for On-Track Financial Education and Counseling. Michelle teaches workshops for Blue Ridge Community College and the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and will be an instructor for the Duke Nonprofit Management Certificate program through the WNC Nonprofit Pathways.

Michelle has worked for and with not for profits for over 13 years and continues to serve the community and not for profits by giving of her time and knowledge through board membership, accounting expertise and assistance, and consulting services.
