Since 2012, Michelle Tracz, CPA, CFE, PLLC, has been an established accounting and consulting practice. The firm specializes in assisting small to mid-sized not for profit agencies to help them meet their accounting and financial reporting needs, as well as fill gaps in staffing and manage special projects. Michelle and her team assist Accounting Managers and Staff, Finance and Executive Directors, and Board Members by providing Contract Controller, Accounting/Bookkeeping, and Consulting services. Firm services also include support with sourcing, set-up, and implementation of accounting systems, internal controls review and assessment, strategic organizational development, and HR processes and documentation.
Michelle Tracz is a Certified Public Accountant (NC Certificate #31441 and MA Certificate #16922) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE certified since 2012) with over 25 years’ experience encompassing public accounting, internal auditing and compliance, and financial management in manufacturing and not for profit industries. Michelle earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Accounting from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1991, and worked in public accounting for Sullivan Bille PC and Pannell Kerr Forster in Boston. While in public accounting, Michelle earned her CPA certificate and performed audits, reviews, and tax returns, for a wide variety of clients.
After four years in the public accounting industry, Michelle transferred her knowledge and experiences into internal audit and compliance with General Signal Corporation (GSC) in Stamford, Connecticut, and Kendro Laboratory Products (now Thermo-Fisher Scientific) in Asheville, North Carolina, fulfilling six years of financial management in manufacturing and four years in compliance controls documentation, testing, and remediation.
Michelle then took the position of Finance Director for the Jewish Community Center in Asheville, North Carolina. This experience provided seven years of non-profit financial management, including development of fiscal management systems and processes, sourcing and implementation of improved financial management reporting software, preparation of monthly financial reports and analyses, management of all employee benefits and IT services, ensuring appropriate agency safeguards and maintaining optimal cash flow for the agency. During her tenure, Michelle successfully completed six agency audits with no management comments or reportable adjustments.
Michelle is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and the North Carolina Association of CPA’s (NCACPA), where she is also a member of the Business & Industry Committee and the Not for Profit Committee. Michelle serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Certified Public Accountant Foundation, and Treasurer for the Board of Directors for the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce. Michelle is an active member of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, the Brevard/Transylvania County Chamber of Commerce, and the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce where she is the Chair of the Leads South Group and a member of the Small Business Committee. Michelle provides workshop trainings and consulting for the Small Business Center at Blue Ridge Community College, the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, and WNC Nonprofit Pathways.
Michelle has worked for and with not for profits for over 16 years and continues to serve the community and nonprofits by giving of her time and knowledge through board membership, accounting expertise and assistance, and consulting services.
